Repertoire coaching (opera)
One of the most sought after vocal coaches in North America, Carol Isaac is currently a full time assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera where she has assisted such conductors as Maestro James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jiří Bělohlávek in both NYC and on tour in Japan. Previous American operatic affiliations include San Francisco Opera (1999 – 2010) and the companies of Santa Fe , Arizona, Pittsburgh, Washington, Cincinnati and Toronto. She also worked at Vancouver Opera from 1995 – 2001 as head coach and repetiteur as well as the director of ensemble programs and occasionally as chorus master. International opera credits include the companies in Prague, Santiago Chile and most recently at the Salzburg Festival assisting Maestro Salonen on Věc Makropulos.
A specialist in the Czech operatic repertoire she has assisted Jiří Bělohlávek, Jiří Kout as well as Sir Charles Mackerras, whom she assisted several times including his course on Janáček operatic roles in Englandat the Aldeburgh Festival with soprano Elizabeth Söderström. On the recital stage she has debuted in NYC at Merkin Hall; Englandat the Wigmore Hall – as well as the CzechRepublic(Prague), and Italy(Sulmona). In 2004, she presented a number of recitals across the USdevoted to the music of Janacek (to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth) including the prestigious Gilmore International Keyboard Festival with tenor Jay Hunter Morris.
An active educator, Ms Isaac has taught in universities throughout Canada and the US as well as Prague (AMU), Italy and Beijing. The upcoming season includes recitals in Canada, the US and the Czech Republic as well as another full season at the Met and her debut in Aix-en-Provence to assist Esa-Pekka Salonen for the new Patrice Chéreau production of Elektra.
